That’s what you are
Had to take a day off from blogging. Little Dude and I had stuff to do. Nothing exciting, unless you consider a trip to Walmart and some laundry a thrill.
Also had to take a day off from car show. Sent LD over with my dad. My back protested the event and I sat here quietly, awaiting my son’s return.
I also didn’t forget to watch Deadliest Catch and After The Catch this week. Are you ding? I purposely put off laundry on Tuesday night so I wouldn’t miss it. Good stuff as usual. You watched, right? RIGHT?
LD said he wanted to cry after seeing how sick Capt. Phil looked at the beginning of the episode and how sad he was to tell his sons he probably wouldn’t be coming back for the season. That’s a hard realization for anyone. Been there, done that. It sucks. Especially for someone who has family depending on them to bring the goods, you know? Part of being a good skipper is having a plan and knowing where to fish. Phil’s had years of such experience. And you know, when I was nursing, I’d often see the “light of purpose” dim in my patients’ eyes as they’d come to the conclusion that life as they knew it — their routines, their raison d’être — was, at the very least, on hold. This was especially common in men. They’re providers. They’re doers. Nothing slows them down. And when it does, a little piece of them dies. Doesn’t matter how exhausted they are or how much they might physically hurt, they need to keep going. That’s what they’ve always done. (Moms are the same way, aren’t we?) The key to survival, though, is in having to lie there and literally take one’s medicine.
So while Phil was having to face that cruel mistress called reality, the Harris boys and the rest of the Cornelia Marie crew had to carry on. And they did. As did every other crab boat, despite the nasty weather and flaring tempers. While on the subject of flaring tempers, Keith and Monte remind me of all the major fights I used to have with my sisters. Thankfully we don’t have those anymore. That the Colburns do and still have the level of respect for and trust in each other is beautiful thing. My sisters and I…well, it would be a very different story.
After The Catch was dedicated to the deckhands and was mighty good. From fights to practical jokes to fire fire fire!, there was plenty of fun to go around. Next week, Capt. Phil talks about his health and the captains talk about balancing work/family on board their boats. I have a feeling this’ll be the best episode of all and am sorry LD will miss out (he’ll be off camping).
Speaking of LD, he wants to petition Lego to create a Deadliest Catch line of toys. If they were smart, they would. Merchandising heaven.
Okay, that’s it for today. LD and I are off to spent some quality time together for the next couple of days. He’s going to be gone a whole week and I’m gonna miss the little fart machine. *Sob!*

Also unforgettable is Burn Notice, which returns to USA network tonight. Funny, smart, and just too damn good to pass up a second season. You should watch. Rumor has it, Bruce Campbell (who plays Sam) will be at Comic-Con in a couple of weeks. If ever there was another excuse to go, I think he’d be it.
