Though Hitto is of Kurdish descents, The New York Times reports that "Some council members said Mr. Hitto was the choice of Syria's Muslim Brotherhood."

New Syrian Rebel Leader Was CAIR Official
RadicalIslam.org
The Syrian Opposition Coalition has elected an interim prime minister under US pressure. And it chose a former representative of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Texas named Ghassan Hitto, disappointing secularists who "withdrew before the vote to protest what they described as a hasty foreign-backed push to appoint Hitto."

CAIR was designated by the federal government in 2007 as an unindicted co-conspirator in the trial of the Holy Land Foundation, a Muslim Brotherhood front whose leaders were found guilty of financing Hamas. The government included CAIR on a list of US Muslim Brotherhood entities that made up its secret Palestine Committee...

According to the Investigative Project on Terrorism, Hitto was on the board of directors of CAIR's Dallas-Fort Worth chapter. This is the CAIR chapter whose leader, Mustafa Carroll, recently was reported as saying, "If we are practicing Muslims, we are above the law of the land."

Hitto also was on the board of directors of the Muslim Legal Fund of America in 2007. The organization raised money for the defense of the Elashi brothers, who were convicted for their roles in the Holy Land Foundation's financing of Hamas.

Though Hitto is of Kurdish descents, The New York Times reports that "Some council members said Mr. Hitto was the choice of Syria's Muslim Brotherhood."

Secular Syrian opposition figures Kamal al-Labwani and Walid al-Bunni didn't even bother to vote when it became clear that Hitto was going to be chosen...

David Rusin has documented how the US Muslim Brotherhood network, particularly CAIR, has gotten involved in Syria and other countries affected by the Arab Spring. One heavily-involved official is Louay Safi, a member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition that unsurprisingly supports Hitto.

He has held a series of senior positions in the Islamic Society of North America, a group explicitly identified in the 1991 US Muslim Brotherhood strategy memo as one of "our organizations and the organizations of our friends." Like CAIR, ISNA was also designated as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land trial.
