Obama’s Ignominious Fall…No Surprise
AJ DiCintio
March 8, 2013
In July of 2008, Barack Obama, the staggeringly inexperienced candidate who hadn't yet received the Democratic presidential nomination, traveled to Berlin, where he lectured Europe and America about saving nothing less than the entire planet by "[building] on the wealth that open markets have created and [sharing the] benefits more equitably."

Eleven months later, amid the pain and anxiety spawned by the greatest economic crisis to grip the nation since the Great Depression, President Barack Obama, who had not yet served six months in office, jetted to Cairo to proclaim a "new beginning" toward eliminating the mere "tension" that, apparently, exists only between the United States and Muslims, with the purpose of bringing about nothing less than a utopian "peace" for all "the people of the world."

Now, only a Jupiter sized megalomania could account for delusory fantasies based upon the beauty of Social Democracy, which has been uglifying European nations right before our eyes, and the goodness of Chamberlainian Foreign/National Security Policy, which has brought nothing but death and devastation to every society to accept it since the first-- surely an entire Cro-Magnon clan every one of whose skeletons sports a frightfully cracked cranium.

But owing to a fierce hard-headedness of the brain, Obama refused to listen to every voice pleading with him to admit to and then bridle the cause of his behavior, a reality best described with a few changes to one of e.e. cummings' poems:

Proverbs told him, he couldn't believe it
the Greek playwrights told him, he wouldn't believe it
Dante certainly told him, and Shakespeare;
and even you told him:
i told him; we told him
(he didn't believe it, no sir)

Yes, for twenty years the Barack Obama who took to heart the angry, leftist liberation theology he heard as he sat in the pews of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ somehow could not hear, much less recognize the importance of, the biblical warning, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."

As a result, his actions and inactions as president have been guided by the arrogance and true-believing adherence to failed leftist dogma he revealed in Berlin and Cairo.

That reality explains why instead of engaging the hard task of bringing true, innovative, desperately needed reform to the entire healthcare system while allowing it to flourish in the private sector, he lied a trillion dollar lie about the myriad-tentacled, Great Society patterned monster he shoved down the nation's throat while, in true liberal fashion, placing the horse of cost, taxes, and borrowing to pay for it far behind the cart of entitlement.

It explains why he appointed a bi-partisan debt commission only to grievously harm the nation by summarily dismissing the group as soon as Nancy Pelosi et al. hissed a chorus of selfish attacks, adding a mighty insult to the injury by refusing to accept a single proposal advanced by its bravest members.

It explains why he has completely ignored the honest Plain English of the trustees of Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid, whose 2012 annual report pleads with Congress and the president to "address the financial challenges facing [both programs] as soon as possible [because] taking action sooner rather than later will leave more options and more time available to phase in changes so that the public has adequate time to prepare."

It explains why with respect to the nation's burgeoning federal spending and debt, he loudly uses every dirty trick in the political playbook to force higher taxes upon the nation, while peeping not a peep about the hard facts that in the period 1995-2012 federal spending increased 153%, GDP only 113%, and median family income a terribly astonishing, profoundly stunning zero, zilch, zip.

It explains why he cares not a whit about Pew Research's finding that on the crucially important issue of federal fiscal sanity, 54% of the public believe budget reduction should come "mostly" through cuts and only 16% "mostly" through additional taxes.

It explains why his tongue has been tightly tied regarding 2011 and 2012 studies by the Government Accountability Office, showing that as much as $200 billion or 5% of total federal spending is wasted by duplication and "fragmentation," for instance, as reported by the WSJ, 20 programs to help the homeless, 80 aimed at economic development, 82 to improve teacher quality, and 80 to help disadvantaged people with transportation.

Finally, it explains why during the past few weeks, the man who views himself as so specially gifted that one of his speeches alone can spring a culture, nay, the entire world to momentous change has experienced a fall so deep and ignominious we find him bitterly writhing in an angry, infinitely small, Chicken Little vindictiveness so frothingly mad it closes White House tours to school children and causes Capitol janitors to worry about their jobs -- over $80 billion in cuts that allow the federal government to spend more this year than it did last.

It would be a blessing, indeed, if just that last reality would bring about a change in Barack Obama that would permit the following ending to cummings' poem:

it took the deviously concocted bits
of the sequester he himself proposed
exploding in his face to tell him

Too bad we can't count on it, for pride-filled liberal ideologues are at once like the insatiable wolf of Dante's Inferno "who after eating is hungrier than before" and the eternally steadfast leopard who "never changes his spots."
