The Department of State is responsible for the security of embassies and consulates. Yet even though there had been several terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya on the U.S. Consulate, the Red Cross and an assassination attempt on the British ambassador, the Department of Defense (DoD) Site Security Team, commanded by LTC Andrew Wood, had been pulled out in August 2012. Both LTC Wood and Eric A. Nordstrom, the State Department’s regional security officer for Libya testified they had made many requests for the Site Security Team to stay, and for additional physical security and security personnel. Ambassador Chris Stevens had also made several requests for increased security. All requests had be turned down.
America’s embassy in Libya is located in Tripoli, with a consulate located two hundred miles to the east in Benghazi. Ambassador Chris Stevens arrived in Benghazi on Friday with a small security detachment. The next day, Saturday, September 11th, he held a number of meetings in the main residence of the consulate’s compound. His last meeting was with Turkey’s consul general. Stevens walked the consul general to his vehicle at 8:30pm There were no demonstrations nor had there been any demonstrations at the consulate since Stevens’ arrival. Stevens returned to the main residence and prepared for bed.
At 9:40pm the State Department Diplomatic Security agent monitoring surveillance cameras observed a large number of armed men breaking through the compound’s main gate. Deputy Assistant Secretary Charlene R. Lamb, who manages more than $1.2 billion of State Department security assets and programs around the world, testified that the agent activated the imminent danger notification system, notified the quick reaction team located at the CIA annex one mile distant, and notified the Diplomatic Security center in Washington, DC, where the local time was 3:40pm Lamb further testified that she was in telephone contact with the consulate, the CIA annex, and the Tripoli embassy throughout the night.
When the attack began Ambassador Stevens, former Navy SEAL Sean Smith and Diplomatic Security Agent David Ubben entered the safe heaven area of the residence and waited for help to arrive -- help that would never come. The jihadists were unable to break into the safe heaven, so they used diesel fuel to set the building on fire. Stevens and Smith were overcome by smoke, and Ubben managed to get out. Ubben then made several unsuccessful attempts to rescue Stevens and Smith. Exhausted, Ubben climbed onto the roof and radioed the CIA annex. In the meantime, the compounds remaining three Diplomatic Security (DS) agents were able to obtain submachine guns and an armored vehicle, which they used to go to the main residence to search for the ambassador.
At the CIA annex compound, which was considered a safe house, personnel heard gunfire and sent the CIA three messages requesting permission to go to the aid of the consulate. The requests were answered with
When the well planned and executed attack on the CIA annex compound began, more calls for assistance were made, and again requests for help were denied. Throughout the attack the annex remained in constant radio contact with the State Department and others. During the attack Tyrone Woods, who was defending the compound from a position on the annex roof, was manning a heavy machine gun. When a mortar was fired at the compound he trained a laser on the mortar and called for a Specter gunship to take out the mortar.
A security team from the Tripoli embassy finally arrived in Benghazi at 1:30am After a forty-five minute delay, the team traveled to the consulate compound, where they were ambushed and forced to retreat to the airport.
A second attack on the CIA annex compound began around 4am (10pm in Washington, DC). When mortar shells struck the annex, killing Woods and Doherty and injuring Ubben, a decision is made to evacuate to the airport. At 8:30am the last plane bearing the bodies of Ambassador Stevens and the three SEALS departed Benghazi.
One can assume that activation of the imminent danger system set off alarm bells in many locations including: the Counter Terrorist command center; headquarters U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) at in Stuttgart, Germany; the Pentagon; the State Department, and the White House situation room. FOX News has shown a copy of an e-mail sent to the White House situation room two hours after the attack began, around 5:45pm in Washington. A reconnaissance drone operating in the area was providing real time video.
There is no doubt about key personnel having up to date, accurate, information. Sufficient military assets were in place and ready to relieve the Benghazi consulate and CIA annex compounds. Armed fighters from Sigonella Air Base, 480 miles away, could have been over Benghazi by midnight. Spectre gunships would have been on station before the second attack on the CIA annex compound began. Two separate Tier One Special operations forces, including DELTA, were ready to respond but were told to wait. All that was required to relieve the consulate and CIA annex and save American lives was the “go” order -- an order never given.
Failure to provided available military and State Department armed support to American diplomats, State Department personnel, and CIA personnel under attack by well armed jihadies goes against America’s traditions and values. Allowing Americans to be murdered while the Obama administration stood by doing nothing is abhorrent to all American patriots.
President Obama’s failure to carry out his duties as Commander in Chief can not be justified by any amount of denials, finger pointing, stonewalling, and outright lying. President Obama, the person ultimately responsible, has once again refused to man up. Instead of acting while Americans were being murdered, Obama and his people stood around, perhaps watching the attack in real tine, and then began making excuses, wringing their hands, and worrying about world opinion and offending Muslims.
Attacking an embassy or consulate is an act of war -- as is murdering diplomats or persons with diplomatic immunity. President Barack Hussein Obama’s failure to carry out his duty as a Commander in Chief makes him unfit for the office of president and leaves an indelible stain on America’s honor. Yet once again the major newspapers and TV networks, FOX the exception, have not covered the story. Can anyone still doubt that the main stream media is a propaganda organ of the Democrat Party?
Six weeks after the Benghazi atrocities were committed, we are still no closer to hearing the truth about what actually happened from Obama. Instead we now find ourselves in the finger pointing and buck passing phase of a major cover-up that makes Watergate look like a picnic. State Department security personnel at Benghazi reported they were under attack, repeatedly requested help, and finally begged for it. The situation room in the White House was informed two hours after the attack began. Military commanders, ready to provide support, say they were ordered not to. Ordered by who?
Director of Central Intelligence General David Petraeus issued a statement: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.” How can a West Point graduate -- a man who should be imbued with duty, honor, country, a man with four stars -- make such a statement? Is Petrarus the “who?” No, he lacked the authority for final word, but he certainly appears to have forgotten the words of his oath to, “protect the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.” Note that he swore to protect the Constitution, not the president.
The Pentagon defended its decision not to deploy forces to Benghazi, Libya, as soon as the U.S. mission came under attack on September 11th, saying it would have been irresponsible to put forces in harm's way without better information. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told Pentagon reporters that while U.S. forces were on a heightened state of alert already because of the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington by al Qaeda, there was no, “real time information to act on ... you don’t deploy forces into harms way without knowing what’s going on ... we felt we could not put forces at risk in that situation.”
Not enough information? DoD had real time video of the attack. What more did they need?
Irresponsible? What nonsense is this? Former SEAL Tyrone Woods had the mortar illuminated by a laser. A UAV (drone) was circling the area, providing real time intelligence. Air Force fighters could have reached the area in less than two hours and taken out the jihadies. Thus, Panetta and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Dempsey, are either shielding their boss, President Obama, or they are totally incompetent. There is no excuse for withholding military support to a diplomatic mission under attack, a decision that cost four Americans their lives. Both Panetta and Dempsey have either forgotten or transposed their oath.
As stated above, the Department of State is responsible for the security of embassies and consulates. We watched the Benghazi Congressional over sight hearing on C-Span. Eric A. Nordstrom, and, Lt. Col. Andrew Wood testified that they had made many requests for additional physical security and security personnel. Then we watched in utter amazement as Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick F. Kennedy and Deputy Assistant Secretary Charlene R. Lamb attempted to justify the unjustifiable, demonstrating their gross incompetence. An honorable secretary of state would fire Kennedy and Lamb, and then resign. Instead, Secretary Clinton has blamed her failure to act on “the fog of war.” Bull manure!
So, who is the mysterious “who” who issued the stand down order? Whose authority could overrule military commanders? President Harry Truman had a sign on his desk that read, “The buck stops here.” President Truman understood the responsibilities of the presidency. Obviously President Obama does not. When all is said and done, the buck had to have reached Obama’s desk. Unlike Truman, Obama bounced the buck back, clearly establishing he is unfit to be president of the United States of America.
Why would President Obama abandon his ambassador and his men, when he could have saved some or all of them and defended America’s honor? Did the president stay up and watch the attacks, or did he, as some have alleged, go to bed? Why would a president seeking reelection make such a disastrous decision? Why would a president seeking reelection leave Washington to campaign in the middle of a national crisis? We can offer three reasons, though none are acceptable.
1) President Obama was afraid of the situation turning into another Blackhawk Down. Thus the lives of Americans were worth less than the possible political damage to his reelection.
2) Military personnel and Diplomatic Security agents are expendable; or (as we strongly suspect),
3) President Obama didn’t want to offend Muslims by killing Muslims -- an assumption what makes imminently good sense, if in fact Obama is a Muslim -- something he has denied.
In the face of all that has been reported on the Benghazi debacle, President Obama should apologize to the American public by resigning. But he will never do so. Instead he will allow the clock to run out on November 6th, and leave the dirty work of exposing the truth to others.
On September 17, 1787 a Mrs. Powell approached Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia as he left the Constitutional Convention, and asked, “Well Doctor, what have we got -- a republic or a monarchy?” Franklin replied, “A republic if you can keep it.” On November 7, 2012, America will know the answer to Mrs. Powell’s question. If the Apologizer in Chief, a man with no apparent honor, is reelected, we have lost our republic.
It is time for the nation to demand the resignations of President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary of State Clinton, Secretary of Defense Panetta, and Director of the CIA Petraeus. We have one week to do so and save our nation and our honor.
The Gateway Pundit reports that President Obama relieved the commander of AFRICOM, General Carter Ham, after the general messaged the Pentagon he was prepared to send aircraft to Benghazi. When the general refused the stand down order, his deputy was ordered to remove General Ham.
Stars & Stripes reported that Panetta announced President Barack Obama will nominate Army General David Rodriguez to succeed General Carter Ham as commander of U.S. Africa Command and Marine Lt. Gen. John Paxton to succeed Gen. Joseph Dunford as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps.
It appears President Obama and Secretary Panetta are firing all who refuse to participate in his cover-up.
