Lee Boyland June 26, 2012 The first Islamic Empire, the Caliphate, ended with the defeat of the Ottoman Empire at the end of WWI. In 1928 al-Ikhwan, the Muslim Brotherhood, was founded to restore the Caliphate. To better understand the Muslim Brotherhood, one can look at their credo: Allah is our objective; the Qur’an is our constitution; the Prophet is our leader; jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations. In the following decades the Muslim Brotherhood slowly increased their power and influence, building a bed of smoldering coals of Islamic dreams of empire -- dreams of a Second Caliphate revitalized in 1979 with the Iranian revolution. Ayatollah Khomeini’s takeover of Iran effectively threw a barrel of gasoline on smoldering embers, igniting the second great wave of Islamic expansion. Led by Khomeini and mimicking their Prophet’s example, revivalists and the Muslim Brotherhood formed many new Islamic organizations that used terror to achieve their purpose -- some pretending to be peaceful, while others, like al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, and Hamas, are openly violent. After 1,400 years of war with, and obtaining victory over the caliphate in WWI, how did the West allow the cycle to begin again? The answer is liberal-progressivism, a philosophy whose adherents assume its dogma to be infallible. Once a theory is accepted as factual it cannot be questioned. Thus, “Islam is a peaceful religion” is an immutable fact, regardless of contradictory evidence that says otherwise. President Jimmy Carter, a man history may label America’s most naive president, assumed that an Islamic holy man was the same as a Christian holy man. Evidence to the contrary, because Carter still refuses to admit his mistake. Khomeini led fanatical backers, a mix of peasants, communists, liberals, Islamists, and students, each believing they would achieve their goals in the takeover of Iran. The Islamists took control and imposed a Shariah law government that far surpassed the cruelty attributed to the shah. At the behest of Carter, Iran’s military stood by and allowed the Islamists to takeover, turning Iran into an Islamic hellhole. The idealistic students and liberals were Khomeini’s useful idiots, and today their children and grandchildren are once again seeking freedom. Did the West understand the lesson taught by the Iranian revolution? Obviously not. America’s current president, Barack Hussein Obama, a man who is challenging Jimmy Carter for the title of worst American president, repeated Carter’s mistake on a grander scale. Obama embraced the Arab Spring. Emulating Carter, Obama threw Hosni Mubarak, Egypt’s president, under the bus, igniting the Islamic firestorm now raging throughout the Middle East. Deception, taqiyya, is an accepted method of implementing the Muslim Brotherhood’s credo. The Muslim Brotherhood promised not to field candidates in the Egyptian elections, and then ran their candidates in both the parliamentary and presidential elections, winning control of parliament and the presidency. This fact alone should verify that any Muslim Brotherhood promises should be taken with a grain of salt. Now the West can only sit back and watch. Will Mohammed Mursi follow in the footsteps of Ayatollah Khomeini? The main difference between Iran in 1979 and Egypt in 2012 is the country’s respective militaries. Carter pressured Iran’s military to accept Khomeini. So far Egypt’s military is still strong. The test will come with the re-election of parliament and the drafting of the new Egyptian constitution. It remains to be seen who will control Egypt. Will America’s Muslim loving president keep his fingers out of the Egyptian pie while it is being baked? Doubtful, since Obama wasted no time in congratulating Mohammed Mursi, Egypt’s new president. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said when referring to America’s quasi alliance with Dominican Republic dictator, Rafael Trujiilo, “He may be a bastard, but he’s our bastard.” While Hosni Mubarak may have been our bastard, one thing is certain -- Mohammed Mursi is not our bastard. Victory by the Muslim Brotherhood was expected since they had the best organization and the ability to create massive protests. Massive protests are very effective, because they appear to be spontaneous and represent the will of the people. In order to prevent Egypt from becoming another Iran, the Egyptian military will have to suppress Muslim Brotherhood demonstrators, turning Egypt into another Syria on steroids. The alternative is even worse. Iran is gaining control in Iraq and Syria, with Lebanon next in line. Raids from Egypt into Israel have begun and will steadily increase. Rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip are increasing, and there are large stockpiles of rockets in Lebanon. Syria’s chemical weapons have been mentioned in several news reports and Syria’s having them appears to be an accepted fact. But, having had some experience with chemical weapons, I have to ask where Syria got them? There have never been any reports of Syria manufacturing chemical weapons. However I do remember reports of chemical weapons leaving Iraq. Could there be a connection? Add this to Iran’s ability to make a simple atomic bomb, and you have the recipe for disaster. The West’s liberal, left leaning media will praise the Islamic demonstrator, just as they did in Iran, garnering world support for the Islamists. Liberals never admit they are wrong. Instead they blame someone or something for their mistakes. If Egypt does become another Iran, it will be entertaining to watch liberals attempting to hang the blame on Bush. Assuming the worst case, Egypt becomes another Iran, what will be the consequences? I can only see one -- WAR. Once the Muslim Brotherhood gains control of Egypt, the peace treaty with Israel will be cancelled and the destruction of the hated Jewish state will become the number one priority. Actions by the Muslim Brotherhood party after the presidential election results were announced provide a window into tomorrow. While backers of the Muslim Brotherhood celebrated the election of their candidate, an Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood supporter, became enraged when he found out his pregnant wife had not voted for Mursi and beat her to death. After the winner of the presidential elections was announce, it only took a few hours for the Muslim Brotherhood to reveal its true agenda. The cleric introducing Egypt’s new president began by declaring, “Our capital shall be Jerusalem, Allah willing. The Caliphate’s new capital shall be Jerusalem.” A man working up the crowd had them chanting, “Mursi will liberate Gaza tomorrow. Allah Akbar.” The situation in Egypt appears bleak. Worse, with Americans concentrating on the upcoming election, Obamacare, “Fast and Furious,” and intelligence leaks, the long term effects of the Egyptian elections and its probable slide into an Islamic state will not be understood until it is too late. In fact, it may already be too late. Israel is attempting to put a good face on the situation, no doubt hoping it can hang on until the U.S. elections. If the Egyptian military can contain the Muslim Brotherhood long enough for a new American administration to take over, Israel may be saved. If not, or if Obama is reelected, Israel will find itself between a rock and a hard place, with any support from the U.S. in doubt. The dark clouds gather, and I fear that war looms on the horizon.
