on Syria to Be Loyal to Obama
Eleanor Holmes NortonIf she could vote in Congress, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (P-DC) would vote to take military action in Syria -- simply to keep President Barack Obama from being "shamed and humiliated on the national stage."
The Congresswoman spoke on The Bill Press Show on Tuesday and gave her insight on Obama's request for Congressional permission. Holmes Norton told host Bill Press that she thinks the only way Obama will received the necessary "yes" votes is due to the "loyalty of Democrats."
"They just don't want to see him shamed and humiliated on the national stage," she said.
"Yeah, right," Press responded.
"At the, at the moment, that's the only reason I would vote for it if I could vote on it," Holmes Norton added.
The Congresswoman -- who believes Syria's "crimes against humanity" need to be addressed, but hopes for a non-military solution -- said that Obama would not be justified in authorizing a military strike against Syria if he did not get approval from Congress. She said he would be "in real trouble" if he decided to do that.
"No president has done that," she said.
